Inspection tools and kits
What kits and tools our inspectors use
In addition to visual and manual inspections, makana.com uses a variety of specialized tools to ensure accuracy and precision in our evaluations, especially for key performance parameters. The following tools are integral to our automated inspection process:
OEM diagnostic reader: To access data directly from the machine’s onboard computer, we use OEM-specific diagnostic tools, such as an OBDII reader or manufacturer-provided systems like Caterpillar’s own diagnostic readers. These tools pull information on the machine’s hours, fault codes, engine performance, and hydraulic system pressures.
Ultrasonic gauges: For measuring specific wear metrics, such as the grouser height on the tracks, we use ultrasonic gauges to ensure exact readings. This allows us to determine the remaining life of the machine’s track system with precision.
Engine compression and oil pressure testers: We use automated systems to test engine compression levels and monitor oil pressure, ensuring that the engine is functioning within the manufacturer’s specified limits.
Hydraulic pressure gauges: These are used to measure hydraulic pump pressure and check for leaks or inefficiencies in the hydraulic system, which is crucial for machines that rely heavily on hydraulic functions, such as excavators and loaders.
